How to Paint Laminate Furniture Like a Pro with Artisan Paint Company

The antique mirrors glow with a gentle golden hue, perfectly echoing the worn gilded details on the drop-down bar. I have to admit, it was hard letting this one leave the studio for the Emporium… she’s a piece I’ll truly be sad to see go.

To add depth, I blended our Black and Antique Patina waxes to create a luscious chocolate-brown tone. I worked this into the carved details, giving the piece a subtle, authentic aged effect that tied the whole finish together beautifully.
Once the Matte Poly Varnish was dry, it was time t Once the Matte Poly Varnish was dry, it was time to mix up my paint washes. While you can do this with water, I always prefer using our Clear Glaze—it gives you more open time to work the washes and achieve exactly the look you want.

I prepared two washes: one with Travertine and one with Crème Brûlée, each at a 50:50 ratio of paint to glaze. First, I brushed on the Crème Brûlée wash generously, then softened and removed it with a smooth, lint-free cloth using dabbing, wiping, and rolling motions. I repeated the process with the Travertine wash, layering the tones for a soft, timeworn effect.
The next step was to lay down the base colour. Whe The next step was to lay down the base colour. Whenever I create a French Château finish, my go-to shade is Café au Lait—the perfect French greige. Since I had more techniques planned, a single solid coat was all that was needed.

After that, I used a scraper to pull back some of the texture, leaving a smoother surface while still keeping depth. To finish this stage, I applied a coat of Matte Poly Varnish—a simple step that makes all the upcoming layers much easier to control.
