Stain & Seal Polyurethane

Price range: $35.00 through $65.00 Including GST

Artisan Stain & Seal Polyurethane is a premium water-based stain and sealer in one, formulated to colour and protect raw timber and painted surfaces in a single step. This hard-wearing, translucent polyurethane penetrates and seals at the same time, creating a beautiful matte timber look with rich colour and professional-grade durability.

Artisan Stain & Seal Polyurethane is a premium one-step stain and sealer formulated with high levels of polyurethane resin for superior durability and protection.

This water-based, water-resistant polyurethane is ideal for kitchen benchtops, tabletops, vanities, floors, furniture and high-wear timber surfaces.

It can be used to:

  • Stain and seal raw timber

  • Refresh pre-coated timber

  • Act as a glaze over painted finishes

VOC-free and virtually odourless, Stain & Seal Polyurethane is safe and easy to use, making it suitable for both professional and DIY applications.

Depth of colour can be built with additional coats. Sample boards demonstrate the difference between 1, 2 and 3 coats.
Different effects can also be achieved by layering multiple shades, and variations in timber grain can be evened out by building layers on lighter areas for colour correction.

Dries to a beautiful super matte timber finish, perfect for achieving the highly sought-after “raw stripped wood” look.

Directions for Use

  1. Prepare the surface
Sand and clean thoroughly using Artisan Easy Scrub to ensure the surface is free from dirt, wax, oil, grease or flaking paint.

  2. Apply the product
Apply Stain & Seal Polyurethane using a damp sponge (recommended), quality brush or short nap roller. Work well into the grain, then finish with long strokes following the timber grain.

  3. First coat on porous surfaces
On raw or highly porous timber, the first coat can be diluted up to 30% with clean water for improved penetration. Subsequent coats can be diluted up to 20% with clean water.

  4. Build colour and protection
Additional coats may be applied to increase depth of colour and durability. Lightly mist the surface with water before subsequent coats to ensure smooth, even coverage.

  5. Drying & recoating
Touch dry in 20–30 minutes. Recoat after 2 hours.

  6. Sanding between coats
For a silky smooth professional finish, lightly sand between coats using 400+ grit sandpaper and remove dust before recoating.

  7. Curing time
Allow to cure for 7 days for maximum hardness and durability.

Stain & Seal Polyurethane dries to a matte finish. If a sheen is desired, apply:

  • Artisan Poly Varnish (Satin or Gloss), or

  • Artisan Finishing Wax, then buff well.

To use as a decorative glaze:
Apply into carved or textured details, work well into recesses, then wipe back excess using a damp cloth for a layered, aged effect.

Approximate coverage is 6–10m² per litre, depending on surface porosity and application technique.
